"Montessori College of Auckland Closes it's doors"

It is with great sadness that Montessori College of Auckland will close its doors at the end of 2008. Reaching the decision to close MCA was the hardest decision we as a Board have had to make. Like our students’ families, we all share feelings of sadness and disappointment.

We have achieved a great deal in the 3 years of operation as a school. We have registered as a charity under the Charities Act, received Ministry of Education approval and a very positive ERO review. Our students have achieved good academic successes and have also contributed to numerous community projects. But, like other private schools, we are facing falling numbers in these turbulent economic times.

We wish to thank all our students and their families for their support of the school . We thank the teachers and staff for their hard work and belief in the Montessori approach of encouraging independent learning, personal development and generosity of spirit to others.  We thank those who have worked with and supported MCA.

Frank Chan,

Chairman,

On behalf of MCA Board of Trustees.

The Montessori College of Auckland (MCA) is the first Montessori secondary school in Auckland.

The Montessori College of Auckland is a progressive and unique school providing an exciting alternative for parents and families looking for:

  • Education that considers the development of the adolescent personality of equal importance to academic achievement.   MCA will provide a holistic approach to education.

  • Development of social responsibility.

  • Development of critical thinkers, problem solvers and leaders.

  • Creative development.

  • Self-empowerment.

  • Studies emphasizing global sustainability, social awareness and peace.

  • Individualized approach to learning that is tailored to each child.

The Montessori College of Auckland is an urban based Montessori community that will nurture young people who will see themselves as contributing members of a global community. It is a composite school catering for children from 11-18 years of age.

Our programme is creative, wide and adaptive with a balance of academic and social development to foster responsibility and co-operation within a supportive learning environment. MCA uses an integrated state (NZ curriculum) and Montessori curriculum.

MCA aims to provide a Montessori focused secondary education that will rate among the top secondary schools in NZ in terms of both academic and social development.

We place importance on the whole development of the individual, and aim to provide a wide and thorough education so that the youth can develop a global picture and a personal philosophy of life that will hold him/her in good stead through life.

Our Students will:

  • Have a passion for excellence in everything they do

  • Have a lifelong love of learning

  • Believe in the universal values of self respect, respect for others and the environment.

  • Have a Global perspective of the worldwide community we live in and the planet we call home.

  • Be committed to give something back through service to others in need in the local and global community
